Dimpur Naga Students' Union Urges Extension of Summer Break Due to Extreme Heat

Image
Dimapur, June 30, 2025: In light of the intense summer heatwave sweeping Dimapur, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has issued a formal appeal urging the extension of the summer break for government schools. Citing health and safety concerns for both students and teachers, the Union has called upon the concerned department to revise the existing academic calendar. As per the department’s academic calendar for 2025, the summer break is currently scheduled from July 14 to July 28. However, DNSU argues that this two-week duration is insufficient, especially considering the scorching temperatures that typically peak during July and August in Dimapur. The union has requested that the vacation be extended to at least 20 days, ideally spanning the entire month until the fourth week of August 2025. In a press release signed by General Secretary Michael Kath and Secretary (Educational) Kevin Gonmei, the DNSU highlighted the compounding challenges of extreme weather, waterlogging, a...

Talent Without Opportunities: Dimapur’s Silent Struggle

Image
In the heart of Nagaland lies Dimapur—a city filled with ambition, creativity, and resilience. Every year, thousands of students graduate with dreams in their eyes and determination in their hearts. But soon after, a harsh reality sets in: the opportunities to match their talent simply don’t exist. While Dimapur is often referred to as the commercial hub of the state, this status has yet to translate into meaningful employment and career development. The city's youth, despite their potential, are caught in a silent struggle—one where their talents are underutilized, underpaid, or sadly, unnoticed. A Generation in Limbo For most young people, the path after graduation feels like a dead end. Government jobs are few, the private sector is small, and industries are nearly non-existent. The most common job avenues include retail shops, courier services, hospitality, or migrating to metro cities in search of better opportunities. Many end up doing jobs far below their qualifications a...

Paiwang Konyak, has expressed concern over delays in government development projects due to land donations being tied with conditions. The visit was part of the second phase of his statewide tour under the Viksit Nagaland for Viksit Bharat initiative. After inspecting the CHC facilities, Minister Konyak emphasized that conditional land donations have become a major obstacle in the timely implementation of public welfare projects. He appealed to landowners to come forward and donate land for hospitals and other development initiatives as an act of humanity and selflessness. “Health infrastructure is critical to community well-being. We must rise above personal interests for the greater good,” he stated. The Minister also appreciated the ongoing developm...
